Tsarevo Wastewater Treatment Plant – Tsarevo Urban Area

In 2006, the Municipality of Tsarevo implemented a project titled: “Construction of the Tsarevo Wastewater Treatment Plant.” The project was carried out with financial support from the Ministry of Environment and Water. The total project budget amounted to 7,000,000 BGN. The wastewater treatment plant was handed over for management, maintenance, and operation to “Water Supply and Sewerage” EAD, Burgas.
The Tsarevo WWTP serves the town of Tsarevo and has a design capacity of 17,000 PE and a hydraulic load of 4,200 m³/d during the summer season and 1,700 m³/d during the winter season, or an annual water volume of 1,500,000 m³/y.

The main treatment process is carried out in the following facilities:
• primary treatment—fine screens, sand and grease trap, 24-hour equalization tank;
• biological treatment—two biological tanks with pneumatic aeration and two denitrification tanks;
• secondary radial clarifier, flow equalization pump station, contact tank, and air blower station;
• reagent storage facility;
• excess sludge silo, activated sludge pump station, screw filter press.

The treated water is collected in an underground collector and discharged by gravity into the Popska River.
