Aytos Wastewater Treatment Plant – Aytos Urban Area
In 2020, the Municipality of Aytos is implementing a project titled “Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Aytos.” The project is being implemented with financial support from the “Environment 2014–2020” Operational Program. The total project budget is 18,262,282.82 BGN, of which 11,513,369.03 BGN is a grant from the Cohesion Fund, national co-financing of 2,031,771.01 BGN, and the project’s own contribution of 4,717,142.78 BGN. The wastewater treatment plant has been transferred to “Water Supply and Sewerage” EAD, Burgas, for management, maintenance, and operation.
The Aytos WWTP treats wastewater from the town of Aytos and has a design capacity of 22,044 PE and a hydraulic load of 4,525 m³/d, or an annual water volume of 1,651,625 m³/y.
The main treatment process is carried out in the following facilities:
• primary treatment—mechanical coarse screen, fine screen, aerated grit chamber, grit separation device, aeration system, and grease trap;
• biological treatment – a selector upstream of the biological reactor, a two-channel biological reactor with nitrification and denitrification;
• secondary radial clarifiers—2 units, disinfection of treated water, and an outlet flow meter;
• Sludge thickener, sludge dewatering—feed eccentric screw pumps, centrifuge, polymer preparation and dosing system, lime silo;
• Temporary storage facility for dewatered sludge.
The treated wastewater is discharged from the WWTP into the Alansko Dere, a tributary of the Aytoska River.
