Sredets Wastewater Treatment Plant – Sredets Urban Area
The “Sredets” Wastewater Treatment Plant was built and put into operation in 2009 by the Municipality of Sredets and was transferred to “Water Supply and Sewerage” EAD, Burgas, for management, maintenance, and operation.
The “Sredets” WWTP treats wastewater from the town of Sredets. The plant’s design capacity is 22,770 PE and a hydraulic load of 5,000 m³/d, or an annual water volume of 1,825,000 m³/y.
The main treatment process is carried out in the following facilities:
• mechanical treatment—fine mechanical screens, a horizontal aerated sand filter, and a grease trap;
• biological treatment—aeration with simultaneous denitrification, secondary clarifier, activated sludge pumping station, disinfection;
• a thickener for accumulating stabilized sludge, and drying fields.
The treated water is discharged by gravity into the Sredetska River.
