Meden Rudnik Wastewater Treatment Plant – Meden Rudnik Urban Area

The wastewater treatment plant was built by the Municipality of Burgas on the site of the old plant between 2007 and 2009. In 2023, the plant underwent a renovation that included the construction of two new biological treatment tanks, a secondary clarifier, and a SCADA system. The system is monitored and controlled locally and can also be managed via the Internet.
The treatment plant has been transferred to “Water Supply and Sewerage” EAD, Burgas, for management, maintenance, and operation.
The “Meden Rudnik” WWTP treats wastewater from the Meden Rudnik neighborhood. The plant’s design capacity is 48,900 PE, and the permitted annual water volume is 2,490,030 m³/y.

The main treatment process takes place in the following facilities:
• primary treatment—inlet coarse screen, influent treatment plant, fine screens, sand traps—2 units;
• biological treatment—biological tanks—4 units;
• secondary clarifiers—2 units, rainwater storage tank;
• pumping station for recirculated and excess sludge, sludge thickener, sludge storage tank, Hiller decanter centrifuge;
• chemical treatment plant.

The treated wastewater is discharged into Lake Mandra.
